Our Philosophy

At Antelope Trails, we encourage a lifelong love of learning. We aim to get to know each and every one of our students as a whole child. From their passions and interests, to their family and life beyond school, we understand that each child has needs and strengths to support and foster. We personalize learning, combining foundational literacy and math skills with hands-on experiences, to ensure academic success.

Fourth grade students have frequent opportunities to practice their communication skills. Students study various forms of communication and practice their ability to adjust their tone, timing, and message based off their purpose and audience- areas we know to be vitally important to student success. Through IB practice, students are encouraged to be caring, inquirers, and principled.

The Antelope Trails community holds many events throughout the year. We welcome volunteers and value family participation. We are excited to partner alongside you and your family to make your child's elementary experience the best it can be.

Curriculum

Language Arts

Students in fourth grade use Comprehension Toolkit, Daily Language Instruction, Get to the Root of It, Lexia, and STRIVE reading process. Within the different programs, students will develop vocabulary, comprehension strategies and work to develop reading fluency.

We use Write From the Beginning for our writing process. Students will develop grade level writing skills through narrative, expository, and research. Along with our writing program, we us Thinking Maps. A set of 8 visual patterns that correlate to specific cognitive processes.

Math

We utilize the Reveal Math curriculum to instruct math. By encouraging curiosity, exploration, and a growth mindset, Reveal Math allows students to see math as a dynamic set of problem-solving strategies instead of the application of memorized algorithmic or computational procedures. At each grade level, math instruction is taught with the approach of both whole group and small group instruction. Math practice is supplemented with the online component of Redbird and fact fluency practice using Rocket Math.

Science

Students in fourth grade use the following units of study to learn scientific methods.

  • Energy works: Energy Works incorporates phenomena and provides opportunities for students to manipulate materials while exploring concepts related to energy.

  • Plant and Animal Structures: Plant and Animal Structures provides hands-on, inquiry-based investigations focused on phenomena and concepts related to adaptations.

  • Changing Earth: Changing Earth provides hands-on, inquiry-based investigations that focus on phenomena related to the history of Earth and its landforms.

Colorado History

Students in fourth grade use the Colorado Story program to learn about the history of our state. Students learn about famous Colorado figures, the landscape of Colorado, and how Colorado has changed over time.
