Personal Phones and Devices

From 8:45 a.m. to 3:50 p.m., cell phones and electronic devices must be silenced and remain in backpacks. Smartwatches may be worn only if silenced and used solely to tell time. Students may not call, send or answer texts, communicate or play games on personal devices during the school day.

All parent-student communication must go through the office. A disruptive device may be kept in the office until the end of the day. During state testing, student electronic devices are collected and stored securely in the office until testing is complete for the day.

Purposeful Learning Technology

Teachers monitor screen time and use technology to enhance instruction. Technology supports a balance of teacher-led learning, collaboration, hands-on activities, reading, writing and problem-solving.

Students typically use IXL for:

  • 15 minutes of reading practice four days per week

  • 15 minutes of math practice four days per week

Technology may also support state and district assessments, classroom assessments, progress monitoring, limited content-area research and teacher-directed learning activities. These typical practice times are not a total daily screen-time limit.

Personal Property

Toys, electronics, cards, games and stuffed animals should stay at home. If brought to school, personal items must remain in the backpack, subject to the smartwatch exception above. The school and district are not responsible for loss, theft or damage.
